gerhard ornig



Born 1990 in Austria, he studied Jazz Trumpet at University of Performing Arts in Graz(Austria) , at the “Conservatorium van Amsterdam” (NL) and as well at MSM – Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

The young versatile musician is member of several Bands, Big Bands and Ensembles all over Europe. To name a few of those groups: Christian Muthspiel und Orjazztra Vienna, Concept Art Orchestra (CZ), Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, Void Quintett, S. P. E. (Sound Pollution Eclectic), Vincent Veneman 10, Jazzorchester Steiermark and many more.

In 2017 he was also establishing himself as a leader with the Debut “First Flow” from Gerhard Ornig Trio (Matt Adomeit (USA)- Bass, Attila Gyárfás (HUN)- Drums)) on Freifeld Tonträger. Just in the following year he released an album (“Long Ride”) as a Co-Leader of another international group 4Seasons“ (Karel Eriksson (SWE)- Trombone, Vasilis Koutsonanos (GR) –Bass, Luis André (BRA)- Drums) , also on the label “Freifeld Tonträger”. Another co-production of himself and the Latvian Saxophone player Toms Rudzinskis (Ornig/Rudzinskis Quartett) led to their first LP on Jersika Records “Locomotion”.
In all these projects he is sharing his work as a trumpet player as well as a composer and arranger.

Since February 2023 he is teaching Jazz Trumpet at MUK – Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

Over the years he had the opportunity to work together with a great number of artists and bands all over Europe: NDR Big Band, DR Big Band, Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, Zagreb Jazz Orkestar (before HGM Jazz Orkestar Zagreb), Latvian Radio Big Band, European Jazz Orchester, Mereneu Projekt, Mereneu Big Band, Ventspils Big Band, Stephane Escombes, 3G, Urban Voyage, JM Jazz World Orchestra, Miguel Zenon, Jim McNeely, Mike Holober, Gerald Preinfalk, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Erik Truffaz, Ronan Guilfoyle, Ed Neumeister, Matthias Rüegg, Karlheinz Miklin, Peter Suave, Fay Claasen, Avishai Darash Quartett und Quintett , Toms Rudzinskis Quartet, Fagner Wesley Quartet…among others
